Welcome MUSC Health as Statewide Sponsor

News | March 20th, 2017

Special Olympics South Carolina President and Chief Executive Officer Barry S. Coats is pleased to announce MUSC Health as a statewide sponsor. Based in Charleston, South Carolina, it serves patients across the state through four hospital facilities and more than 100 outreach, affiliation and partner sites.

“We’re excited about partnering with Special Olympics South Carolina,” said Matt Wain, Chief Operating Officer for MUSC Health. “We believe in creating community partnerships and accessible health care for all. Children and adults with intellectual disabilities deserve the same type of health care and opportunities available to everyone. By becoming a statewide partner with Special Olympics South Carolina, MUSC Health can continue to be a catalyst for patient and family-centered health and wellness.”

For almost 20 years, medical students and physicians have been involved as coaches, clinicians and volunteers. The MUSC College of Dental Medicine (CDM) and College of Health Professions’ physical therapy program have long been involved locally and in the statewide Healthy Athletes program. Healthy Athletes provides free health screenings and medical referrals for athletes. CDM has provided free screenings for State Summer Games for almost 20 years.
