As of Spring 2018, there are 14 Banner Unified Champion Schools in South Carolina. In the first year, the process was open to only high schools. Last year, the process opened to middle schools and now elementary schools are also invited to apply for this distinguished recognition. The Application Process to become a Banner Unified Champion School is now open.
Josh Tutterow first started working with people with special needs as a staff member at Camp Spearhead in Greenville, S.C. He says it was just a summer job at first but he fell in love and worked there three more summers. After graduating college, he pursued finding ways to continue to work with the special needs population.
